How to Get and Fill Out Your Marriage License in Oklahoma: A Complete Guide for Your Wedding Day
As an Oklahoma City wedding photographer, I’ve witnessed countless couples say “I do” on their special day. But before you can step into your wedding dress or suit and begin your journey down the aisle, there’s an important task you need to complete: obtaining and properly handling your marriage license. This legal document is essential for ensuring that your wedding is official and recognized by the state of Oklahoma.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the entire process, from applying for your marriage license to the steps required on your wedding day. Whether you're getting married in a grand venue or a small intimate gathering, knowing the ins and outs of your marriage license will make your wedding day that much smoother.
How to Get Your Marriage License in Oklahoma City
Before you start planning your Oklahoma City wedding photos or booking your dream wedding venue, you’ll need to apply for a marriage license. Here’s what you need to know to ensure the process goes smoothly:
Both Parties Must Appear In Person: Both you and your partner need to visit the Oklahoma County Clerk’s Office to apply for your marriage license. This is typically housed in the main courthouse of Oklahoma City, but double-check with your county clerk's office for specific locations. You’ll need to provide:
Full legal names
Dates of birth
Places of birth
Social Security numbers (if applicable)
No Waiting Period: The great news for couples planning their Oklahoma City wedding is that there is no waiting period to get married once you have your marriage license (except if you’re under 18). You can marry immediately after the license is issued, which means your dream wedding day can come sooner than you think!
Validity Period: Your Oklahoma marriage license is valid for 10 days from the date it is issued. Be sure to schedule your wedding within that time frame.
Witnesses: Oklahoma law requires that two witnesses sign your marriage license after the ceremony. They must be at least 18 years old, and they cannot be your officiant. Make sure to have two reliable friends or family members present to sign as witnesses.
Fees: The cost for an Oklahoma marriage license is $50. However, if you and your partner complete at least four hours of pre-marital counseling, the fee is reduced to just $5. This is a great way to strengthen your relationship and save money!
The Officiant’s Role on Your Wedding Day
Once your marriage license is ready, the next step is the wedding ceremony. As an Oklahoma City wedding photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for the officiant to follow the proper steps to ensure the ceremony is legally valid. The officiant is responsible for:
Performing the Ceremony: The officiant must be legally authorized to conduct a marriage ceremony in Oklahoma, which means they must be a judge, retired judge, or an ordained minister.
Signing the Marriage License: After the ceremony, your officiant must sign and date your marriage license. They will also fill in the location of the ceremony.
Returning the Marriage License After the Wedding
After the ceremony is complete, the signed marriage license must be returned to the county clerk’s office where it was originally issued. Your officiant is responsible for returning it, so make sure they do this promptly after the ceremony. This final step is critical for ensuring that your marriage is legally recorded in the state of Oklahoma.
Additional Tips for Oklahoma City Brides and Grooms
Dress for the Clerk’s Office: When you visit the county clerk’s office, avoid wearing jeans, shorts, or T-shirts. Dress respectfully to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Plan Ahead: Be sure to get your marriage license well in advance of your wedding day, especially if you're planning a destination wedding or have a tight timeline.
Know the Restrictions: If either you or your partner has been divorced, you’ll need to wait at least six months after your divorce is finalized before applying for a marriage license.
Conclusion
As you plan your Oklahoma City wedding, don’t forget about the legal details of obtaining and handling your marriage license. Whether you’re envisioning an intimate ceremony or a grand celebration, following these steps ensures that your marriage is legally recognized. After all, once you say “I do,” you want to make sure everything is official!
As your Oklahoma City wedding photographer, I’m here to capture every moment of your special day. By understanding how to handle your marriage license correctly, you’ll have more time to focus on the things that matter—like creating memories that last a lifetime.
Planning Your Wedding Guest List: Tips from Wedding Photographers in Oklahoma City
Planning your wedding is an exciting, though sometimes overwhelming, endeavor. As wedding photographers in Oklahoma City, we often hear couples ask about the ideal guest list size for their big day. How many people should you invite? Is there a magic number that ensures your wedding will be just right? The answer, of course, is as unique as your relationship.
Consider Your Budget
The first thing to consider when deciding the number of guests at your wedding is your budget. It's a simple equation: the more guests you have, the more you'll need to spend on catering, the venue, and favors. You might dream of a grand wedding with everyone you know present, but if your budget doesn't stretch that far, you'll need to trim down your list. It's far better to host a smaller wedding that fits your budget than to start your married life in debt.
When working with couples in Oklahoma City, we often see that those who prioritize their budget are able to allocate more toward meaningful elements like stunning photography and videography. Capturing the memories of your day is just as important as the guest list itself!
Choose a Venue That Fits Your Vision
Your venue is another crucial factor. If you've always dreamed of a quaint garden wedding or a small chapel ceremony, you're going to be limited by the space available. On the other hand, if you've booked a large hall or outdoor space, a smaller guest list might make the venue feel empty.
Many couples we've worked with in Oklahoma City love the flexibility of venues in the area, from historic estates to modern lofts. Wherever you choose to say "I do," ensure the guest list complements the venue's capacity and vibe.
Craft the Atmosphere You Want
Do you envision a festive, jubilant celebration where everyone is on the dance floor? A larger guest list might be suitable. If you prefer a more intimate, personal affair where you can spend time with each guest, a smaller list would be a better fit.
As wedding photographers, we love capturing the unique energy of each celebration. Whether you're hosting 30 guests or 300, our goal is to document every joyful moment authentically.
Focus on Quality Over Quantity
Invite people who genuinely care about you, who are excited to celebrate with you, and who will bring positive energy to your day. This might mean making tough decisions about who to leave out, but remember: it's your day, and it should be filled with people who make you and your partner happy.
Don't Forget the Logistics
Each guest will require an invitation, a meal, a seat, and space to mingle. A larger guest list means more logistics to handle, so ensure you're comfortable with the workload before sending out those invites.
Working with vendors you trust, like experienced wedding photographers in Oklahoma City, can help ease the planning process. We understand the intricacies of managing timelines and ensuring your day goes smoothly.
A Guest List That Reflects Your Love
In conclusion, the perfect number of guests for your wedding isn’t a fixed number. It depends on your budget, venue, the atmosphere you want to create, your relationships with potential guests, and your capacity to manage the event.
No matter the size of your celebration, having a trusted team to capture your memories ensures you'll relive those moments for years to come. If you're looking for wedding photographers in Oklahoma City who will work closely with you to preserve the magic of your day, we’d love to help!
Planning your wedding guest list is just one step toward your dream celebration. With thoughtful choices and the right support, you can create a day that's uniquely yours.
Audrey and Collin's Wedding | The Haunted, Historic Lemp Mansion
In the heart of Saint Louis, Missouri, lies the historic Lemp Mansion, a venue known not only for its grandeur but also for its haunted backstory. It was here that Audrey and Collin Ladd chose to celebrate their love and begin their journey as a married couple. Their unique choice of venue added an intriguing layer of mystique to their special day, a detail that was not lost on the couple or their guests.
The day began with both Audrey and Collin preparing for their big moment in spaces right next to each other, building the anticipation for their first look. The proximity of the getting ready spaces added an intimate, almost playful, atmosphere to the proceedings. Audrey, ever the fun-loving bride, had a small blow-up toy of her groom, Collin, which added a dash of whimsy to the day.
The first look was a heart-stopping moment that we were privileged to capture. Audrey descended a flight of stairs and gently placed her hand on Collin's shoulder. The emotion in their eyes was palpable, a beautiful testament to their love and anticipation of the life they were about to embark on together.
As if the Lemp Mansion's hauntingly beautiful ambiance wasn't enough, the couple decided to hold their ceremony on the rooftop of the mansion's Grand Hall. The breathtaking view served as a stunning backdrop to their vows, making the occasion even more memorable. The ceremony was a wonderful blend of love, laughter, and a touch of the supernatural that is so unique to the Lemp Mansion.
The wedding of Audrey and Collin Ladd was a truly magical day. The setting, the details, and the love between the couple made it a wedding to remember. The Lemp Mansion, with its rich history and spectral residents, added a unique charm to the event, making it a day we'll never forget. The couple truly embraced the spirit of the venue, creating a wedding that was as fun as it was romantic. It was a pleasure to be a part of their day and capture these unforgettable moments. The Lemp Mansion, Audrey, Collin, and their love story will forever be etched in our hearts.
Daniel & Taylor | Wedding at Thunderbird Chapel
A quick summary of Dan & Taylors Wedding, that does it absolutely no justice.
On a beautiful day in Norman, Oklahoma, love was in the air as Daniel and Taylor pledged their love and commitment to each other at the picturesque Thunderbird Chapel. This venue, known for its rustic charm and stunning views, was the perfect setting for a day filled with joy, laughter, and plenty of unforgettable moments.
What made this wedding day particularly unique was the couple's love for board games. Both Daniel and Taylor are avid board game fanatics, a passion that they wanted to incorporate into their special day. So, instead of the traditional first dance that we've all come to expect at weddings, they decided to do something completely different, something that was uniquely them. They played a 'first board game' - a round of slap jack to be exact. This fun and light-hearted twist on tradition certainly set the tone for the rest of the day.
But the board game theme didn't stop there. In another break from convention, the couple decided to forgo the traditional mother-son and father-daughter dances. Instead, they invited their parents to join them in a game of slap jack, which led to much laughter and cheering from the gathered guests. This was a wonderful way for the couple to share a part of their life and their passions with their closest friends and family.
As their wedding photographer, it was a joy to capture these unique and beautiful moments. The photos from this day not only show a couple in love but also a couple having fun, being themselves, and sharing their unique passions with their loved ones. From the breathtaking venue of Thunderbird Chapel to the laughter-filled board games, this was a wedding day to remember.
Daniel and Taylor's wedding was a beautiful reminder that weddings should be a reflection of the couple getting married. Their decision to incorporate elements that truly represented them, like their love for board games, made their wedding all the more special and memorable. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and board games, and it was an absolute honor to be part of it.
Is 3 Hours Enough? Randy & Nichole’s Wedding at City and State in Downtown OKC
When planning a wedding, many couples wonder, “Is three hours enough to capture all the special moments?” Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph Randy and Nichole’s wedding at City and State in Downtown Oklahoma City on a streamlined three-hour timeline. Spoiler alert—it was enough, and the results were stunning!
A Carefully Planned 3-Hour Timeline
With a shorter timeline, prioritizing key moments is essential. Randy and Nichole’s day began with a first look at City and State, a beautiful urban venue that offers plenty of charm and style in a romantic scene. Their first look was both intimate and relaxed, giving us plenty of time to capture their excitement and love for each other before the ceremony.
Making the Most of Couples and Family Photos
Right after the first look, we used the modern and minimalist backdrops around City and State for a quick couples session. This is where a shorter wedding day shines—focused, quality time in great locations can yield just as many beautiful memories without requiring hours of shooting. After the ceremony, we gathered the family for some quick portraits, ensuring that everyone got to be part of the memories.
The Reception Essentials
Even on a tight timeline, Randy and Nichole included their must-have moments at the reception. We captured their first dance, cake cutting, speeches, and some festive party shots. City and State’s spacious layout kept everything close, allowing us to move easily from one event to the next and make the most of our time. The venue staff’s professionalism played a huge role in keeping everything on track, which is especially helpful for shorter weddings.
Is 3 Hours Really Enough?
If you’re planning a wedding in Oklahoma City and considering a shorter timeline, the answer is yes—three hours can be enough! With the right planning, it’s possible to capture all the important moments and enjoy a beautifully memorable day. City and State’s urban style and attentive staff added to the seamless experience, making it an ideal choice for OKC couples.
If you’re planning a wedding with a short timeline and want to ensure all your memories are captured beautifully, let’s chat! I’d love to work with you to make the most of every moment, no matter the schedule.

Capturing Timeless Moments: Secrets to Creating Beautiful Wedding Portraits
Your wedding day is a celebration of love, joy, and the beginning of a new chapter in your life. As you plan for this special occasion, one aspect that holds immense significance is your wedding portraits. These photographs will forever serve as a visual reminder of the cherished moments and emotions you experienced on your big day. In this blog post, we'll explore the secrets to creating stunning wedding portraits that capture the essence of your love story and leave you with cherished memories for a lifetime.
1. Connection and Emotion:
At the heart of a great wedding portrait lies a genuine connection between the couple. The photographer's role is to capture those intimate moments that reflect the love, joy, and tenderness shared between you and your partner. Natural smiles, gentle embraces, and authentic expressions are the ingredients that bring out the true emotions and make your portraits come alive.
2. Composition and Framing:
The composition of a wedding portrait is key to its impact. A skilled photographer carefully considers the placement of the couple within the frame, utilizing principles such as symmetry, leading lines, and the rule of thirds. These techniques create a visually pleasing image that draws the viewer's attention to the couple while maintaining balance and harmony. Additionally, the background and surroundings should complement the couple without overpowering them, ensuring they remain the focal point of the portrait.
3. Lighting and Exposure:
Proper lighting sets the stage for a remarkable wedding portrait. Whether it's natural light or skillfully controlled artificial lighting, the photographer uses it to enhance your features, create depth, and set the desired mood. Balancing exposure ensures that every detail is captured accurately while keeping the couple as the primary focus. Skillful manipulation of light can create dramatic effects or evoke a soft and romantic ambiance, adding depth and dimension to your portraits.
4. Location and Background:
Choosing the right location and background for your wedding portraits is essential. Consider places that hold sentimental value or locations that match your style and wedding theme. Whether it's a picturesque outdoor landscape, an elegant indoor venue, or a place with personal significance, the setting should provide a meaningful backdrop that complements your love story and enhances the overall aesthetic of the portraits.
5. Posing and Direction:
A skilled photographer knows how to guide you through poses that appear natural and flattering. They provide gentle prompts and suggestions while ensuring you feel comfortable and at ease. Paying attention to small details, such as hand placement, body positioning, and facial expressions, helps create a relaxed atmosphere, allowing your genuine personalities to shine through. Remember, the best poses capture your authentic selves and reflect your unique connection.
6. Attention to Details:
Incorporating meaningful details into your wedding portraits adds depth and context to the story they tell. From the intricate lacework on your gown to the delicate bouquet you hold, capturing these elements thoughtfully brings out the beauty and significance of your wedding day. These details serve as precious reminders of the thought and care put into every aspect of your celebration.
In the end your wedding portraits are a testament to the love, joy, and commitment you share with your partner. By focusing on connection, composition, lighting, location, posing, and attention to details, your wedding photographer can create breathtaking portraits that will stand the test of time. These timeless images will serve as a cherished reminder of the love and emotions experienced on your wedding day, allowing you to relive those precious moments again and again.
So, trust your photographer to capture the essence of your love story and create beautiful portraits that will be treasured for generations to come.

To Look or Not To Look?
It's all falling in place, you have your venue, your caterer, floral, photographer and your DJ. A lot of stress is now off your shoulders and now you are planning what your big day’s schedule will actually look like... Then here comes a very important question. “Do you plan on doing a first look?”
It's all falling in place, you have your venue, your caterer, floral, photographer and your DJ. A lot of stress is now off your shoulders and now you are planning what your big day’s schedule will actually look like. You are smart so you’re working with your vendors and wedding coordinators to make it as efficient and streamlined as possible. Then here comes a very important question. “Do you plan on doing a first look?”
For many years in the past it was considered “bad luck” to see the bride before the ceremony, but as many traditions do, this idea has shifted.
If you are one of the many people who have zero idea what a first look is, it is a small piece of time the couple arranges to see each other before the beginning of the wedding ceremony.
This usually is done in a beautiful, and romantic way so the couple can have a moment alone before being tossed into the crowd of people who are there to celebrate their union.
Of course as with everything there are PROs and CONs, and a first look is not for every couple even if it is an intimate moment to have captured by your photographer and videographer.
PRO
It can help ease the nerves of both the Bride and the Groom.
Suspense builds for both the groom and bride as they ready for their day. She wonders if he is going to be impressed by all of her beauty. Meanwhile he wonders if he is going to be able to measure up to her vision and even more he wonders if he will cry when he sees her.
It can be horribly nerve racking waiting for each others response. This can be reason alone for some couples to do a first look, to get all of those nerves and wiggles out before the walk down the aisle ever begins.
CON
You will have to get ready a bit earlier than normal.
In a “normal” wedding the bride may not finish getting ready until 20 minutes beforehand and the groom probably won’t START getting ready until then.
When planning on doing a first look the bride and groom will want to be done getting ready about 30 minutes to an hour or so before the ceremony. That way there is no rush for the bride and groom to finish their first look with each other.
PRO
With a first look, you can get the portrait session out of the way early.
For wedding photographers, we love the portrait sessions. It is probably our favorite part of the day, posing and taking the photos that everyone will print off and have on their fireplaces or walls of their homes.
Doing a first look can open the possibility of doing your wedding portraits before the ceremony instead of afterwards. If a bride and groom do their first look an hour before the ceremony that can leave 30 minutes or so of time for the photographer to take those photos before getting them back for the ceremony.
(This probably won’t stop the photographer from stealing you away for another 15 minutes for those sunset photos as well though!)
CON
Lighting isn't always the best in the most ideal spots for first looks.
Logistically the best place to take photos is somewhere where the light is not too harsh, but is bright enough that your photographer won’t have to crank their iso up too high. For some venues the best/ most romantic place to have a first look is in direct sunlight or a beautiful, but dimly lit hallway.
Whatever photographer you hire, will know how to handle these situations to make the best of them, but there will usually be a little give and take that has to happen.
To finish on a strong note our last PRO
PRO
It captures a strong moment of intimacy together.
Many men, even the strong ones, tear up and burst with emotions at the sight of their woman dressed in white looking as beautiful as an angle.
These memories are never forgotten, especially if they are captured in photos and on video.

3 Great Nature Spots to Take Engagement Photos In Oklahoma City
You are engaged and now you are looking for where to have your Engagement Photos taken. You want somewhere local, but you want somewhere with beautiful nature. If you are in Oklahoma City, or the surrounding areas this post has you covered!
You are engaged and now you are looking for where to have your Engagement Photos taken. You want somewhere local, but you want somewhere with beautiful nature.
If you are in Oklahoma City, or the surrounding areas this post has you covered!
Here in OKC we are blessed to have many beautiful nature filled parks carved out all over the city. When couples come to us to book their engagement shoots many places come to mind, but a few stand out above the rest.
In our list of 3 Great Nature Spots to Take Engagement Photos In Oklahoma City we will provide you with the pros, the cons, and some great spots from these locations to kick off your engagement shoot.
Martin Nature Park
First on our list is going to be Martin Nature Park just south of the John Kilpatrick Turnpike and right off of Memorial Road.
The pros of this place are pretty obvious -
PROs
This location has a lot to offer. From a large pond, and wide open fields to more dense forestry and wooden structures.
This location is great for those that are more uncomfortable posing for photos with large groups around. In the times we have been here there have only been a few handful of people walking around the trails, and no one has come within 50ft of us.
CONs
Martin Nature Park is in fact a nature park! While that itself is not a con, the wildlife that comes along with it like ticks, mosquitoes, and snakes in the summertime is. (At least for our purpose)
Oftentimes when we have had shoots here we have found ticks on ourselves afterward.
If this is a place you’d like to choose for your engagement photos, make sure to use A LOT of bug repellent and consider wearing long pants.
Will Rogers Gardens
Next on our list is a location right off of Highway 74 (and if you are an avid disc golf player you will know this one).
PROs
This Place is B-E-A-UTIFUL! If you have not had a chance to walk through the Will Rogers Gardens, then we definitely suggest you do!
With the perfectly trimmed shrubbery, the gorgeous statues and fountains, and the tiny fairy houses you can spot all over the place, it is a must-visit spot!
CONs
Will Rogers Garden is a well-known place of beauty. With that comes a flood of people. We have done photo shoots at Will Rogers Gardens in the summer, spring, fall, and winter, and there always seems to be other people here having photos done as well.
If you are on the more shy side of the social spectrum then you may want to steer clear of this location, but if not it is definitely worth it!
Myriad Gardens
The Myriad Gardens in downtown OKC is an easy one to find. It is right outside Devon Tower, and if you do not know what that is, it’s the tallest building in the OKC Skyline so it's not hard to find!
PROs
The Garden is full of life, the variations of flowers and trees keep this place from ever making a boring backdrop.
As well due to being planted in the middle of the city, you can choose to have a building pocking up in the background or tuck yourself away in one of the many dense coves and be completely surrounded by greenery.
CONs
Typically busy. Being right next to Scissortail Park and downtown OKC it’s not surprising to find this place can be busy.
Though you may have to wait for the occasional pedestrian to pass by or have others stop to watch your photo session momentarily, this place is a great spot for photography.
Those are three of our favorite places in Oklahoma City to take photos with engaged couples. If you have a place here in Oklahoma City that you would like to take photos with your love, send us a message on Facebook by clicking the icon down below!
